The Great War: It was an International conflict that began on 28 July 1914 and ended on 11 November 1918, unfortunately it was not the last. After this there was a global war that lasted from 1939 to 1945.
In order to establish peace and prevent future world war, The Treaty of Versailles in 1919 came into being. But the provisions in this treaty became fuel to the fire of another World War.
So we will understand why Treaty of Versailles failed in its attempt for peace by reading following points:
- Germany and her allies, who felt betrayed, denounced the treaty as “morally invalid.
- The Allies disagreed on how best to treat Germany
- Germany refused to accept the terms of reparations
- Germany’s refusal to accept the “war-guilt” clause, Article 231, led to growing German resentment and nationalism.
Going by the Articles of Treaty of Versailles, like 159, 160, 181, 231, 235. Following things became certain:
- Rather than a Peace Treaty, it was a punishment given to Germany and those who helped her.
- The Economic and Political limitation implied on Germany, helped in the rise of Ultra Nationalism in the name of Nazism.
- The Articles like 231 and 235 ignored the fact that Germany also affected by the World War 1 and like other war torn countries it also needed Financial and political help.
Therefore, the Articles in this treaty became a most important factor in the rise of Second World War.
