Slaves risked going through the Underground Railroad because they were so tired of being treated the way they were. Some of them had a mentality like if they die, then they escape their torment, but if they make it, they’ll have their freedom. To them it may have been worth the risk because freedom at that point in time meant a great deal for slaves back then.
