Desertification can occur because of the expansion and intensive use of agricultural lands, poor irrigation practices, overgrazing, during extended periods of drought, and deforestation. It can spreads by overpopulation making it necessary for more land to be used by people especially in less developed countries. As an extended period of drought might occur it can strip the soil until it becomes what is known as “dead” soil.
