i believe a newborn is born to be however they turn out to be. how a person or a "newborn" is shaped depends on who they are around and how they adapt to their own environment. this could do much to the character. how they view things, are raised, are taught, etc can all be determined by their surroundings and who they socialize with. this creates new habits, ideas, emotions, reactions, etc throughout a person, therefore building character. however, a newborn is just a baby, and babies have the rest of their lives to build character.
