Answer & Explanation:

Gender based violence refers to human rights violation such as violence against women, men, boys or girls due to social norms of their rights and responsibilities. It includes harm of different magnitude such as physical due to imbalance between gender as portrayed in any society.

Despite campaigns and platforms created to air grievances and discourage gender-based violence, the incidents still persist due to the following reasons;

1) Inequitable gender norms: The root cause of gender-based violence is often neglected when it is being addressed. Equitable gender norms is to be taught from early adolescence to young adulthood and instilled in young adults. When not properly instilled, it leads to socio-economic inequality.

2) Impunity for crime and abuse: Crime and abuse are cankerworms that eat into societies. However when some genders feel they can be exempted from certain punishments, it makes gender-based violence persist.

3) Poverty: The effect of poverty leads to frustration which leads to gender-based violence. When the high rate of poverty is not duly addressed, gender-based violence will persist.

4) Low level of women's empowerment: Women are often the victims of gender-based violence as they struggle to fit it. Due to the low level of women's empowerment in the society, it gives the other gender the feeling of superiority against the women and makes gender-based violence linger on.
