Implicit sentences are those words that are used in a sentence to subtly or covertly deliver a hidden message.
Some examples of implicit sentences include:
- Everybody knows that Daniel is dense.
This means that the writer implies that Daniel is dull or unintelligent
- Ashley did not give me verbal permission to use her, but she handed me her keys when i asked.
This shows that Ashley implied that she gave her permission
Explicit sentences are those messages that are not directly and clearly stated, which leaves no room for ambiguity or misunderstanding.
Some examples include:
- Everybody knows that Daniel is dull
- Ashley told me that it was okay to use her car when i asked her.
Therefore, implicit and explicit sentences are two very different types of sentences.
