The older scientist disregarded the younger scientist prediction because the older scientist thinks that he has more experience than the younger scientist, therefor he should disregard the younger scientist prediction.
This is not true at all the younger and oldest scientist are equally as important. Just giving an example of what the older scientist might have thought.
