Imperialism is an ideology and potential policy that consists of extending a nation's rule over foreign nations. This is done by military force but also by exercising economic power over this territory. The latter has been a common form of imperialism during the 20th century. Powerful countries seek to secure their political and economic interests by applying foreign investment in the form of state-owned companies. These companies, which operate in various industries, gain a profit which, after paying the taxes by law, will go to the treasury of their governments.
