By definition, a Personal Computer, which can be shortened to PC, is a microcomputer (a computer powered by a microprocessor) that was made for a single person to use at one time. Essentially, the name says it all: it's a computer meant for personal use.
Before the invention of the PC, computers were large terminals used by corporations for their businesses. Because they were only used for commercial reasons, they were much too large and expensive for at-home or small business use. These computers would have many people on them at once as means to keep all resources connected to a single database and spread computer resources among users currently using the computer. But since the PC's invention, people like you and me are able to use desktop computers, laptops, cellphones, smartwatches, and many other technologically-splendid devices thanks to the ever-shrinking technology that is the computer.
