Post-traumatic Stress Disorder is a disorder that progresses in some people after a shocking, frightening or hazardous event. There are two kinds of PTSD – chronic (ongoing) and acute (short-term). The symptoms for PTSD are the following and these must occur for a month:

·         At least one re-experiencing the event (i.e. Flashbacks, bad dreams, frightening thoughts)

·         At least one avoiding symptom (i.e. staying away from places, events or objects that reminds the person of the experience)

·         At least two arousal and reactivity symptoms (i.e. feeling tense, difficulty sleeping, angry outbursts)

·         At least two cognition and mood symptoms (i.e. trouble remembering events that happened in the traumatic incident, negative thoughts about the world and oneself, feelings of guilt and blame, loss of interest in activities)
