Answer with explanation:

Let cost of one quart of oil =$ x

Cost of one gallon of gas = $ y

It is given that

→ Four quarts of oil and 40 gallons of gas cost $126.80.

 4 x +40 y=126.80-------(1)×3

→Six quarts of oil ,and 52 gallons of gas cost $166.28

 6 x +52 y =166.28-------(2)×2

:12 x +120 y=380.40--------(1)

:12 x +104 y= 332.56--------(2)

Equation(1) - Equation(2)

16 y= 47.84

Dividing both sides by , 16 we get

y=2.99

Putting the value of , y in equation (1)

→4x + 40 × 2.99=126.80

→4 x+119.6=126.80

→ 4 x=126.80- 119.6

→ 4x= 7.20

Dividing both sides by 4, we get

→x =1.8

Cost of a quart of oil=$ 1.8

Cost of a gallon of gas= $ 2.99
