The conquest of Constantinople by the Ottomans marked the end of the Byzantine Empire. It also significantly weakened the position of the Orthodox church compared to the Catholic church. The Ottomans used this in their advantage, and they started spreading Islam on new territories in the Balkan, and they had partially managed with it in big portions of nowadays Albania, Kosovo, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
