One of them is in the midst of suing the Canadian Government for what was done to them. In the other the people did their best to blend in with the community. Most people are satisfied that they did.
One of our Federal political parties argued that it was totally unnecessary and the rights of those who were interred and had Canadian Citizenship had their rights violated. The Japanese in the first community will never vote for any party but the one that defended them.
I am among those who believe that it was an unjust, unnecessary act. I think it was wonderful that the second group could blend in. One of the cites you should never miss is the Japanese garden. The girls employed in that place are all dressed in Kimonos which are floor length and made of the finest silk.
Most of the people who were interred lived on the coast. They were fisher people when they came to Canada and that's how most of them made their living. They were peaceful honest hospitable and clean. They did nothing but contribute to the richness of Canadian Culture. They should never have been interred.
