Contamination of food items by other living organisms is known as BIOLOGICAL CONTAMINATION.
Biological contamination is said to occur when pathogenic organisms are introduced into food. Biological pathogens that can contaminate food include: bacteria, viruses and parasites. Biological contaminations can be introduced into food from various sources such as from environment, inadequate sanitation practices and cross contamination during handling, transportation, processing and storage.
