Write down all the feelings, thoughts, or ideas you have about the penny. Ignore spelling, punctuation, and grammar. Brainstorm about the penny and record your thoughts. Once the timer stops, you can always click on "My Journal" to continue writing or make any changes.
An example of a brainstorm of thoughts, feelings, and ideas about the penny is the following:
It costs more to produce than it is worth.
It is part of the American culture and people are used to its existence.
Poor people tend to pay cash more frequently, so the penny can be useful.
We cannot use pennies in vendingmachines.
Other countries have eliminated their 1-cent coins, and no problems were noticed.
Brainstorming:
When brainstorming about a topic, just jot down any ideas that come to mind. Do not worry whether those ideas are necessarily in agreement with one another.
The example above has ideas that are both for and against the elimination of the penny in the United States. After writing down as many ideas as you can, you will be better prepared to conclude where you stand, whether you are for or against it.
The example above also used complete sentences, but while brainstorming you may actually write down just words or phrases. For instance: "costs a lot, not worth it," or "cannot use in vending machines."
