What is the meaning of "abate":

The verb "abate" is used when something becomes less intense or widespread. Therefore, if Helena is telling the night to "abate thy hours," she means she wants the night to have fewer hours, to go by quickly.

Why does Helena say that?

Helena is angry at Demetrius and Lysander because she thinks they are mocking her. Both men have fallen in love with, but she cannot believe their feelings are true. Upset, she wants the night to go by fast so that she can go back to Athens.
