Can someone proofread and give advice to make my essay higher level?

Have you ever taken a standardized test? You probably have! Standardized testing is built to gauge how much funding a school will receive based off student performance. However, they are rudimentary in testing a student's knowledge retention. But, the underlying truth is that standardized testing does not accurately show a student's achievements and knowledge.

First, proponents might say standardized testing can predict how students will achieve in the future. The College Board claims that standardized testing can only predict 32% of a student's grade, and a student's GPA can predict 33%, but using both they can predict 42% of a student's grade. However, even though they can predict your grade; test anxiety is a huge reason why those scores could not be accurate. Ellie Young interviewed Dr. Tahoon, and “According to Dr. Tahoon Rehab, some underlying physical and physiological symptoms of test anxiety may include insomnia, nightmares, increased heart rate and muscle tension, as well as increased levels of irritability and a decrease in a student’s ability to focus on a given task” (Young, Ellie). Due to struggles like test anxiety, it is not possible to get an accurate score from a student. This is a big reason why these test should not be forced upon individuals.


Second, individuals claim that standardized testing could help a student with bad grades have a chance to get into college. Pro Standardized Testing states, “Another argument for these tests is that if a student performs poorly in high school because their school had a bad curriculum and bad teachers, the student still has a shot at going to college by doing well in the exam” (Mara, Samuel). This is true but if an individual does not have a lot of money to get test materials, that puts them at a severe disadvantage over people who do. Anti Standardized states, “The latter student cannot afford tutoring and test prep materials. This student even has limited study time because they have a job or younger siblings to take care of” (Bemmethum, Anna). This means when you have two similar academically gifted students, the one who can’t afford prep or lessons could have more trouble exceeding. When one student has access to classes, test prep, and lessons, but one has no access and little time; you can’t not accurately gauge their level. Which is why the scores you receive might not be accurate.

These are reasons why standardized testing cannot accurately test a student's knowledge retention and potential. Test anxiety is a leading problem, and 60% of students suffer from it, and the financial situation a student might be in all affects how accurate a test is. Standardized testing should not be standard, it should be a student's choice, and their score should not be held against them. The scores still should help the student get into a college, but something inaccurate should not be held against anyone. Let's face it, there is too much in the way for the scores to be accurate.
