Babies develop their ability to focus their vision, reach out, explore, and learn about the world around them during the first year of life. According to Piaget, infant intelligence is sensorimotor or based on direct physical interaction. To learn about the world, infants use their senses to taste, feel, pound, push, hear, and move. According to Piaget, infants are only conscious of what is directly in front of them during the early stages. They concentrate on what they are doing, what they observe, and their bodily interactions with their surroundings. They are continually conducting experiments because they are unsure of how things will react.
