Urban growth boundaries
An urban growth boundary, or UGB, is a regional boundary established to control urban sprawl by mandating that the area inside the boundary be used for urban development and the area outside be left in its natural state or used for agriculture.
Legislating a "urban growth boundary" is one method, among many, of addressing the major challenges posed by unplanned urban growth and urban encroachment on agricultural and rural land.
