What is the electromagnetic spectrum?

The color spectrum of typical white light, which ranges from red and orange to blue and purple, is truly a rainbow of distinct colors. We are unable to see many additional "colors" of light. These include "light" in the infrared and ultraviolet (UV) spectrums that are just outside the range of human eyesight. Additionally, they contain more unusual types of radiation like X-rays, gamma rays, and radio waves. The electromagnetic spectrum is the collective name for all of these many lights' "colors."
