Fourth planet from the sun, and is the second smallest in our solar system after Mercury. Named 'Roman God of War,' it is often referred as the "Red Planet." The surface of Mars is basically a dry, barren wasteland marked with old volcanoes and craters. Apparently the entire surface of Mars could be scoured with a single sand storm that can creep out at any moment in time.

Mars has a rare environment from that of other planets.  First, it is rocky, dusty terrain makes it not possible for plants to develop.  Furthermore, on Mars there are volcanos, just like on Earth! An Additional unique aspect of Mars' terrain is that the group is mostly made of basalt, an eruptive rock that on Earth is discovered on the ocean floor.  It also is wrapped in a thin layer of iron.
