The potential backlash in criticizing Elvis Presley, the only previous rocker of the Beatles' stature, was just too dangerous, as he was a hero to a large part of the Christian crusaders. Presley was born in Tupelo, Mississippi, and moved with his family to Memphis.
Tennessee, when he was 13 years old. In 1954, he began his music career at Sun Records with producer Sam Phillips, who intended to promote the sound of African-American music to a larger audience. Presley, supported by lead guitarist Scotty Moore and bassist Bill Black on rhythm acoustic guitar, was a pioneer of rockabilly, an up tempo, backbeat-driven mix of country music.
