Black discharge and ear pain are indications of fungal ear infections called otomycosis. Otomycosis is a fungal ear infection caused by a fungus, most commonly being Aspergillus and Candida. Excessive use of antibiotics and steroids can cause the bacteria in the ear to vanish, making it easier for fungus to grow over there. A weak immune system also makes one prone to fungal ear infections.
Other symptoms other than black discharge and ear pain include hearing impairments, itchiness, severe headaches, etc. If the ear infection is caused by a fungus Aspergillus, grayish black, or yellow dots from inside the ear canal. While, if it is caused by Candida, a thick white discharge is formed. Antifungal medications in the form of ear drops may be prescribed. This may include clotrimazole, fluconazole, or miconazole.
The infections in the ear are caused by a fungus, antifungal medications would be prescribed to treat the infection caused.
