What is Rivalry?

If the simultaneous consumption of a good by one consumer inhibits the simultaneous consumption by other consumers, or if the simultaneous consumption of a good by one party lowers the ability of another party to consume it, the good is said to be rivalrous or a rival in economics.

If at whatever level of production, there is no cost associated with delivering a good to a marginal (extra) person, that good is said to be non-rivalrous or non-rival. A good is deemed "anti-rivalrous" and "inclusive" if it increases the value of each individual when it is used by others.
