As such, because of the failures of the 18th Amendment, it was soon repealed, allowing for the purchase and consumption of alcohol to be legal again. Another governmental bonus that occurred from legalizing alcohol was the added benefit of being able to once again tax alcohol during it's processes. The government collected over $250 million in taxes per year following the repeal, which helped fund government programs throughout the Great Depression.
