A man standing in a field in New Hampshire sees Cannon Mountain in front of him. He knows that the height of Cannon Mountain is 4080 feet high and that he is 3 miles from the base. If he is looking at the top of the mountain through binoculars, what is his angle of elevation (in degrees) to the top?

Respuesta :

First job is to convert either feet to miles or miles to feet. I'm going to convert feet to miles cuz the numbers will be smaller that way. 4080 feet = .773 miles. The angle in question is the one that is the base angle that is NOT the right angle. Use the tanA=.773/3 to find that the angle's measure is 14.4 degrees. Just so you know, you would the exact same answer in degrees for the angle of elevation if you had converted to feet from miles!
