1) A park in a subdivision has a triangular shape. Two adjacent sides of the park are 533 feet and 525 feet. The angle between the sides is 53°. Find the area of the park to the nearest square foot.
2) The diameter of a basketball rim is 18 inches. A standard basketball has a circumference of 30 inches. What is the distance between the ball and the rim in a shot in which the ball goes exactly in the center of the rim?

Respuesta :

1. The area of the park is calculated through the equation,
                                   A = 0.5ab(cos C)
Substituting the given above,
                                 A = 0.5(533 ft)(525 ft)(cos 53°)
                                A = 84201.44 ft²

2. We find the radius of the second figure by the equation,
                               r = C / 2π
Substituting,
                               r = (30 in) / (2π) = 4.77 in
The radius of the first one is 9 inches. Getting the difference of these two figures will give us an answer of 4.225 inches.
