Explanation:

As per the tectonic plate theory, there are three different plate boundaries namely – convergent boundary, divergent boundary and transforming boundary. When these tectonic boundaries relatively move against each other, then earth quake occurs.  

The tectonic plates are nothing but just large pieces of earth that move and crush into each other.  

These tectonic plates lie on the mantle of earth which acts as a fluid thereby enabling these tectonic plates to float. Convection current with in the mantle causes floating.
