Well, if the boxes are 4 x 4 x 4, then they are each 64 cu in. 

So, 12 of them would be 64 x 12 = 768 cu in. (or 5.3 cu ft)

Well, the edges of the box is 4, so the volume of each box is 4³. 4³=64.
Since the cartons can hold 12 of them, the volume of each carton is 64 times 12.
The answer is 768 inches².
