The major developments in Europe that enabled the age of exploration:

The Renaissance brought practical applications of ideas. New knowledge and new technologies made possible the construction of larger sailing ships capable of oceanic voyages.

What is the age of exploration?

The Age of Exploration, often known as the Age of Discovery, began formally in the early 15th century and continued until the 17th century.

Europeans started travelling the world by water during this time period in quest of new trade routes, money, and knowledge. The effects of the Age of Exploration would change the planet for all time, making geography the contemporary science it is today.

The Ottoman Empire severely restricted trade when it seized control of Constantinople in 1453 by denying Europeans access to the region. It also prevented access to the Red Sea and North Africa, two very significant commercial routes to the Far East.

The Portuguese led the first expeditions that are known as part of the Age of Discovery. The majority of sailors maintained well within sight of land or followed well-known routes between ports despite the fact that the Portuguese, Spanish, Italians, and other ships had been cruising the Mediterranean for decades.

A new trade route to West Africa was found thanks to Prince Henry the Navigator, who encouraged explorers to venture outside of the documented routes.

What is the renaissance?

A spike of interest in Classical studies and values is generally believed to have characterized the Renaissance, the time in European civilization immediately succeeding the Middle Ages.

The Renaissance also saw the discovery and exploration of new continents, the adoption of the Copernican over the Ptolemaic system of astronomy, the abolition of the feudal system and the expansion of commerce, as well as the creation or use of numerous other potentially significant innovations, including paper, printing, the mariner's compass, and gunpowder.

However, it was largely a time of the resurgence of Classical learning and wisdom after a protracted period of cultural decline and stagnation in the eyes of the intellectuals and thinkers of the day.
