The introduction is the essay's part that catches the attention of the reader and explains the content of the paper.  If the introduction is unclear or boring, it's less likely people will read a document because they won't be interested. For example, if my introduction goes like "This paper explains changes in the weather because of pollution" it's kinda boring, but if I say "In this paper I show the massive damage caused by bubblegum to our environment" it sounds more interesting and people will like to read it.
