Mainly to stop the incorrect use and dosage of the medicine itself, and I don't mean just over-dosing on it. Some doctors have already given people the wrong kind of antibiotic for the wrong reason. Some diseases have been generated from certain antibiotics because they have been used to treat the wrong thing. Allergies and the in-lawful distribution of these antibiotics can make them dangerous to use when they are over the counter. It's already bad enough that people use these antibiotics for drugs. Naturally, it would be best if you let your doctor prescribe it, and check the label on the box before you start to take it, because there are things in that medicine that you might be allergic to.
Hope this answer helps! :)
my guess is so people are not taking the wrong antibiotics for the wrong reason. because a lot of people try to be there own doctor, and what many people self decide they are wrong.
