The Structure of Glycine is attached below and each central atom is encircled with different colors.

Molecular Shape around Nitrogen Atom (Orange):

As shown, Nitrogen is making three single bonds with two hydrogen atoms and one carbon atom hence, it has three bonded pair electrons and a single lone pair of electron. Therefore, according to VSEPR theory it has a tetrahedral electronic geometry but due to repulsion created by lone pair of electrons its molecular geometry becomes Trigonal Pyramidal.

Molecular Shape around Carbon Atom (Green):

As shown, Carbon is making four single bonds with two hydrogen atoms and one nitrogen atom one with carbon atom of carbonyl group hence, it has four bonded pair electrons. Therefore, according to VSEPR theory it has Tetrahedral geometry.

Molecular Shape around Carbon Atom (Blue):

As shown, Carbon is making two single bonds with oxygen and carbon atoms and a double bond with oxygen. Hence, it has a Trigonal Planar geometry.

Molecular Shape around Oxygen Atom (Red):

As shown, Oxygen is making two single bonds with one carbon atoms and one hydrogen atom hence, it has two bonded pair electrons and two lone pair of electrons. Therefore, according to VSEPR theory it has a tetrahedral electronic geometry but due to repulsion created by lone pair of electrons its molecular geometry becomes Bent.

The molecular shape in glycine will be trigonal pyramidal around nitrogen, tetrahedral around Carbon of [tex]\rm CH_2[/tex], trigonal planar around carbon of COOH, and bent with the Oxygen of OH.

Glycine is an amino acid with the molecular formula, [tex]\rm NH_2CH_2COOH[/tex]. The molecular shape around each central atom will be:

Around the Nitrogen:

The N is bonded to the 2 H atoms and the nearby Carbon atom. Nitrogen has 7 valence electrons. Thus after bonding, there is the presence of loan pair. According to the VSEPR theory, the shape of the N will be tetrahedral, but the loan pair results in the trigonal pyramidal geometry.

Around the Carbon of [tex]\rm CH_2[/tex]:

The carbon is bonded with 2 hydrogen atoms with 1 nitrogen and 1 carbon of the carboxylic group. The carbon has 4 valence electrons and are bonded. Thus the electronic geometry will be Tetrahedral.

Around the Carbon of carboxylic group:

The carboxylic group carbon has 2 single bond with hydroxyl group oxygen and nearby carbon. A double bond with the oxygen atom extends its geometry to be trigonal planar.

Around of Oxygen of OH:

The oxygen atom is bonded with hydrogen and carbon with single bond. The oxygen has 6 valence electrons, the 2 bonds will result in the loan pair. Thus by the repulsion of loan pair the molecular shape around oxygen will be bent.
