Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disorder that attacks the hair follicles, causing well-defined bald areas on the scalp or elsewhere on the body. It is a disorder that usually starts during childhood. It happens because the immune system would mistakenly attack the hair follicles where growth of hair starts. This condition is common for people younger than 20 years of age. It typically starts when group of hair would fall out resulting to areas of the scalp to be bald. Also, hair would appear thinner and weak that they would break easily. This condition could happen if you have a history of this in the family, have this at a you age, has other autoimmune disorder and prone to allergies.
