1) Boss tweed becomes head of Tammany Hall. William Magear Tweed was an American politician that is famous for being a head of the Democratic Party Political machine. In 1858 he became a major member of Tammany Hall which was a new political organization that played a big role in controlling New York City.

Law officials break up the Tweed Ring.  In 1871 the tweed ring scandal occurred when William Magear Tweed made his idea of corrupt group come true. He formed it in order to defraud New York City through the construction of the City Courthouse. His campaign tool 13 million dollars from taxpayers while the construction cost only 3 million dollars.

Rutherford B. Hayes becomes president. In 1877 the United States welcomed its 19th president who is known due to the fact that he put an end to Army support for Republican state governments in the South. He also tried to sort out all the divisions from the Civil War and Era of Reconstruction.
