A woman jogging at 6 mi/h passes a man biking in the opposite direction at 12 mi/h. If they maintain their speeds, how far from each other will they be 10 minutes after passing? (Can you please explain how you get the answer? I've been having a hard time figuring it out!)

Respuesta :

The first thing you do is calculate how many miles the person run per minute then you multiply by the time in this case 10. Let me show you:

6mi/1h*10   We know that an hour is the same that 60 minutes, so we simplify:

6mi/60min*10    Then we found how many miles the person runs per minute, you divided and we found that the person runs 0.1 miles per minute, we simplify:

0.1mi/min*10    Now you calculate 10 times 0.1 and that's 1 mile in 10 minutes.

Now for the cyclist is the same :

12mi/60min*10= 0.2mi/min*10= 2 miles in 10 minutes.

Finally you find the amount of miles and write your answer :  If they maintain their speeds, they will be 3 miles far from each other 10 minutes after passing.
