Crack cocaine is the 'free base' which means the removal of the HCl and therefore the polarity, making it less soluble in polar solvents, less grams per mole and a lower point of vaporisation due to lower inter-molecular forces.
THis also creates more tightly packed molecules leading to smaller space occupation of crystals.
