Lymphocytes and phagocytes are a type of white blood cell. The lymphocyte detects the pathogen that could lead to an infection, and produces the antibody needed to kill the pathogen. The antibody attaches to the pathogen and then the phagocyte comes along and engulfs it, destroying and eating it.
