if the perimeter is eight centimeters there will be 2 cm on each side of the square. So you multiply two sides and get 4cm.
A square has four sides which all have the same length.

So if we call the length of each side of the square 'a'

The sum of length of all the sides (the perimeter) will be ,

a + a + a + a = 4a

Now let's equal this to the perimeter to find the length of each side 'a'

[tex]4a\quad =\quad 8\\ \\ a\quad =\quad \frac { 8 }{ 4 } \\ \\ a\quad =\quad 2[/tex]

So the length of each side of the square is 2 cm

To find area of a square we multiply the length of its two sides

So,

[tex]a\cdot a[/tex] is the area of the square,

[tex]a\cdot a=\quad 2\cdot 2\quad =\quad 4\\ \\ 4\quad c{ m }^{ 2 }[/tex]

The answer :

[tex]\boxed { 4\quad c{ m }^{ 2 } } [/tex]
