Solve using the guess-and-test strategy. Michael and Susan have a combined age of 17 years. Michael is 5 years older than Susan. How old is Michael?

If you take 17 and minus 5 you get 12 so if you add 5 back it makes 17 and since Michael is 5 years older he is 22, my mistake
