With a direct deposit program, the employer will deposit your pay cheque into your bank account rather than giving it to you or mailing it to you. This system is more convenient and immediate for both the employer and the employee. However, if the person receiving the pay is on a contract then he/she will probably prefer the paycheque to have a record of the transaction for tax purposes.
