They are called biogeochemical cycles because chemical substances are cycled through the geosphere and these cycles often involve living organisms.
Matter moves round the ecosystem in certain cycles. The cycles in nature are; water cycle, nitrogen cycle, oxygen cycle, phosphorus cycle, carbon cycle, etc.
Many of these cycles involves living organisms. The substances that are being cycled are chemical substances and the geosphere is involved in all these cycles.
As a result of all these, the cycles in nature are called biogeochemical cycles.
