The Battle or Capture of Santa Fe in 1846 took place within a bigger conflict called the Mexican American War, fought between the US and Mexico. There was no violence in the battle as there were no Mexican forces when the US soldiers arrived to and took control over Santa Fe. After that, the US claimed the territory of New Mexico.
