The delegates of the Constitutional Convention of 1787 had to main compromises. One of them was the issue about slavery. This compromise was called the 3/5 compromise. This had something to do on how slavery would be counted for the intention of determining representation. Some of the states that owned slaves wanted them to count in the population, so they could have a larger number of representatives in the House. There was also a compromise on the slave trade it could not be banned for 20 years after the ratification of the Constitution.
