Read this excerpt from The Iliad.
Thus Chryses pray’d.—the favouring power attends,
And from Olympus’ lofty tops descends.
Bent was his bow, the Grecian hearts to wound;
Fierce as he moved, his silver shafts resound.
What evidence from this passage supports an emerging theme of loyalty to friends?

A)the gods’ dominance over human affairs
B)Chryses prayed to the gods and Apollo hears his plea
C)the gods are fierce and vengeful
D)the gods are reluctant to interfere in human arguments

Respuesta :

B)Chryses prayed to the gods and Apollo hears his plea

B) Chryses prayed to the gods and Apollo hears his plea

In the excerpt, Chyrses prays and Apollo "attends" and "descends". This shows that the gods heard his prayer and Apollo decides to help him. This best shows loyalty and friendship. A few of the options can be eliminated immediately because they are the opposite of friendship and loyalty. Option A is all about showing dominance, this has nothing to do with friendship. Option C says that the gods are fierce and vengeful which almost makes them seem villainous - the complete opposite of friendship. Last, option D talks about the gods reluctance to interfere and yet the passage shows that Apollo did in fact interfere.
