So multiplying by a fraction a/b is the same as dividing by the fraction b/a (it's just the original fraction flipped upside down)
so 8/10 * -3/4 is the same as 8/10 / 4/-3
so 8/10 * -3/4 is the same as 8/10 / 4/-3
Division of one fraction by another is the same as multiplication by that fraction's reciprocal. That idea can be played back in reverse for this problem, and we can rewrite the expression
[tex] \frac{8}{10}\times(- \frac{3}{4}) [/tex]
in terms of division by reciprocal of [tex]- \frac{3}{4} [/tex], [tex]- \frac{4}{3} [/tex], giving us
[tex] \frac{8}{10} \div\big(- \frac{4}{3} \big)[/tex]
or, reducing [tex] \frac{8}{10} [/tex],
[tex] \frac{4}{5}\div\big(- \frac{4}{3} \big) [/tex]
[tex] \frac{8}{10}\times(- \frac{3}{4}) [/tex]
in terms of division by reciprocal of [tex]- \frac{3}{4} [/tex], [tex]- \frac{4}{3} [/tex], giving us
[tex] \frac{8}{10} \div\big(- \frac{4}{3} \big)[/tex]
or, reducing [tex] \frac{8}{10} [/tex],
[tex] \frac{4}{5}\div\big(- \frac{4}{3} \big) [/tex]
