Explanation
Tyrannical rule is a situation where the person or the leader in power uses the power illegally, harshly or in a very cruelly manner. In order to do away with this form of ruling the King John 1215 was presented and forced to sign this document(Magna Carta) which was a set of rules drafted to do away with the kings tyrannical ruling. and allowed for the formation of powerful parliament.
The Magna Carta was presented to King John in 1215 so that the Monarchy would not be able to arbitrarily use their powers and bring about a tyrannical power structure within the country.
Further Explanation:
The Magna Carta was the earliest documents that talked of human rights, and the importance of having safeguards for citizens from excesses committed by rulers. The tyrannical rulings of King John caused unrest among his nobles and the ordinary population, who threatened to bring down the monarchy. However, a divine institution such as the position of the monarch could not be removed. Rather, a compromise was reached between the king and his rebel nobles, in which a Parliament would be created, that would aid and advise the king, assist him in discharging his ruling powers. The Magna Carta was essentially a feudal compromise, as the power of the king depended on the support of his barons. Thus, power equations in medieval England were secured on a feudal basis.
Although the position of the monarch would still continue to be supreme, medieval England society was run on a feudal basis, which necessitated the support of the nobles, both in military and financial affairs. The king could not take decisions independently of the nobles. Thus, success in military ventures and acquisition of territory always had the nobles full support for their king, as they provided both the finances and manpower for such ventures. King John had misused his powers with respect to his management of funds in his extremely lavish campaigns, however, they were unsuccessful, and left England in dire bankruptcy. To salvage the situation, he utilized his powers as a monarch and heavily tax the ordinary people, without the consent of the nobles. The noble's rebellion compelled the king to come to a compromise, and thus the principles of Magna Carta were formulated.
