First  expand the parentheses
Then  rearrange the variables so they are on one side of the equation
Then rearrange the constant terms so they are on the other side

Example-

7x - 3(x - 2)  =  x + 3
7x - 3x + 6 = x + 3
       -x           -x
7x - 4x + 6 = 3
              -6      -6
7x - 4x = -3
3x = -3

x = -1
