Its good to draw a picture but let set variables:
x = length
y=width
Given
x = 6 + y
perimeter = 2x + 2y
2x + 2y = 44
Find area: x×y.

Subsitute for x:
2(6+y) + 2y = 44
12 + 2y + 2y = 44
4y = 32
y = 8

Now solve for x
x = 6 + (8)
x = 14

Area is x × y which is
8 × 14 = 112
