In this framework, each person (A and B) uses what are called "I-messages" to show how they feel about a certain activity (Steps 1 and 3). In steps 2 and 4, the other person uses active listening measures as a way of totally understanding what is being said and felt by the speaker. In step 5, the two persons agree on a mutually-acceptable conclusion as a way of resolving the conflict.
